Short Story Hair Color
Victor Anthony Scotti, Jr., short hair colorist, smiling in teal glasses, his short curls colored warm copper

About Victor · Short hair colorist in Arlington, VA

I'm Victor Scotti, Jr., a licensed cosmetologist and cosmetology educator. I color short hair for the person wearing it, not the trend of the month.

My color starts with biology. Your hair, skin and eyes share one pigment system, melanin, so I read your natural pigment first and build color that works with it. That's how bold color ends up looking lived-in instead of painted on. I'm also studying trichology, the science of hair and scalp, through the International Association of Trichologists. How I choose color

My chair at Sola Salon Studios Arlington is for short hair on every gender, identity and texture. Pixie cut color, grey blending, a short haircut that finally fits. I treat color as play, not repair. You bring the idea; I bring the chemistry.

If you're dealing with thinning or hair loss, my sister practice, The Donna Jean Hair Restoration Clinic (opens in a new tab), is the place to start.

How I choose color

Your hair, skin and eyes share one pigment system, so the right hair color flatters all three.

I use the 12 color seasons as a map. Three things place you on it: undertone (warm or cool), depth (light or deep) and contrast (soft and blended, or clear and bright). Your season is a starting point. In the chair, I fit it to you.

Wearable shades are a Signature Color ($225) or Gloss & Go ($95). Bold shades are a Bright Chapter ($275, after a free consult).
